Wow…that opening feast doesn’t bode well for people who can’t eat spicy foods…like me…

    • June 30, 2010 8:27 pm

It’s a buffet so hopefully there will be some milder options in the mix for you.

Most of the food (exception being the chicken) will have the spicier elements on the side.

I don’t do good with spicy either. I know a lot of hard work into this and I appreciate it. I thought that we were going to have English food like cornish pies, treacle tart, shepard’s pie, pudding etc. Sort of like the food they have in the books/movies. Wasn’t expecting Mexican/Latin.

Most people dont go to the Welcoming Feast for the food. They go to meet friends again or for the first time. They did have traditional English food at Phoenix Rising in New Orleans but its usually held in the evenings and is now always a buffet.

Azkatraz’s Welcoming Feast was also held at lunchtime which somewhat ruins the atmosphere imo, as a lot of people are still arriving round that time.

I suppose that is true for most. I think there are some people, like me, in that this is going to be the only real meal they are going to have the entire time. Other than the feast, I am going to be having pb&j while at the conference. Again, I’m not trying to complain. Just stating an opinion.

Well, I love spicy mexican food so this sounds absolutely delicious to me! Can’t wait for all that guacamole. It doesn’t even sound all *that* spicy.

I won’t be bringing my appetite to the welcoming feast, but I will be bringing my own lunch. I would never ever think to associate Harry Potter and Latin/Mexican food.

I think it all sounds absolutely delicious and coming from Ireland I couldn’t be happier that there’s not a shepherds pie in sight! 😀

There are English pubs around the corner down on International Drive if you want all of those things (in Orlando, it seems to cater to the English and Indian foods the most, IMO – you can get a great curry there!). The buffet sounds awesome, really larger than in the past. Looking forward to it and after being outdoors for the Live!Chessmatch Stunt show (*pimppimp*) we’ll be hungry! Less than 2 weeks, now!

Also – there is an Irish Pub IN the Universal Theme Park (not Islands, where HP is) that is pretty good, as well.
They also have STRONGBOW on tap!

I might splurge for a pastie just as long as Mrs. Lovett doesn’t make them. Not sure about the ones at the park if they taste like sloppy joes.

Well, it is Florida and there is a huge Latin / Mexican population there. I think that explains the welecomeing feast… Personally I am so excited. Everything sounded delicious to me!!

This does sound delicious… and you mention veggies and vegans, but what about celiacs? Are the dishes going to be marked? *has already had this problem with Universal*

    • July 4, 2010 8:58 pm

      Kat,
The dishes will be marked. I know the Infinitus planning committee has asked them to mark items that were Vegetarian, Vegan and Daily-free. Not sure if they will be marking items that are Gluten-free but I’ll ask.

Personally I’m really happy to see the Mexican/Cuban leaning of the menus. What could be better for a crowd?! It’s certainly what I’d choose as a type of food that everyone loves. (Although clearly everyone doesn’t. I’m from California, so that’s a new concept for me.) Thank goodness it’s not anachronistic British food. Ick. Blood sausage or black pudding anyone? It’s true that mole may not be congruous with HP, but neither is an old-timey, snow covered English village congruous with south Florida. And that’s going to be fabulous!
